March, 2024: In the spring semester, I started to teach a course entitled “Irhal! The History of Arab Democracy” at the University of Basel.
December 12, 2022: I completed the book chapter “The Global History of Arab Democracy” which is to be published in an edited volume as part of the HISDMAB project.
6.10.2022: I participated at the discussion Podium Zeitgeschichte about the October edition of Vierteljahreshefte für Zeitgeschichte, which dealt with Islam and international politics and probed “new perspectives on the Contemporary History of the Middle East between Cold War and Decolonization”. October 6, 2022: I lectured about Islamic Bioethics at the Max Planck Institut für Ausländisches und Internationales Privatrecht, Hamburg, describing development, characteristics, and challenges. The lecture can be found here.
September, 26-28, 2022: I participated in the HISDEMAB workshop “Historical Approaches to the Democratic Experience in Tunisia” in Tunis.
May 24, 2022: At the HISDEMAB workshop in Berlin, I presented parts of my research results under the title
“The Concept of Citizenship in Formally (Not So) Independent Egypt“.
January, 25-26, 2022: I participated in the online conference “Reflections on the Historicity of Democracy. Libya in the longue durée” at the ZMO, chairing some of the panels.
November, 24, 2021: I presented my paper “Discussions on Citizenship in Egypt, 1922-1930” in the internal HISDEMAB workshop at the ZMO Berlin.

March 1, 2021: I presented a first draft of my paper on my research topic under the title “Debates on Citizenship and Secularism in Semi-Colonial Egypt” in an internal HISDEMAB meeting.
